The Mineral Development Strategy

The Mineral Development Strategy Independent Panel is pleased to announce the release of the final Yukon Mineral Development Strategy and Recommendations report. This report has been submitted to the Government of Yukon and First Nations for their review and consideration.

With the release of this report, the Independent Panel has concluded its role in the Yukon Mineral Development Strategy process. The Panel encourages the Government of Yukon, First Nations and the mineral industry to carefully review the report and work together towards implementation. We look forward to witnessing the establishment of important next steps for this process, which will be determined by the Government of Yukon and First Nations.

The Yukon Mineral Development Strategy and Recommendations incorporates the needs, values and interests of all Yukoners, including those Yukon First Nations that have not yet signed modern treaties and Transboundary First Nations. The Strategy presents a long-term plan for a robust and responsible Yukon mining industry. Consideration was given to all aspects of the mineral resources development cycle with the aim of establishing a consistent and compatible mineral management regime for both Crown and First Nations lands, subject to alignment with each First Nation’s legislation.
